Front Loaders

Front loaders are primarily used for collection of commercial containers
(often called "dumpsters"). These large vehicles are highly productive and
engaged in collection of waste from businesses and industry.
In certain applications, this type of machine has been adapted to residential collection
as well. When used in this fashion, a low-entry low cab forward, right-hand drive chassis
setup is typical. This truck configuration has a container mounted on the forks and bags
or trashcans are emptied into the container. Once filled, the container is cycled and
unloaded into the body of the truck in the customary way. Cart flippers may even be
attached to the container - allowing for easier unloading of rolling 95-gallon carts.
Heil's Front Loader line includes all manner of unique designs,
including specialty applications such as adjustable forks, lightweight models, and residential
configurations.

Rear Loaders

Rear loaders are primarily used for residential collection, however commercial
applications exist as well. The low loading height and large hopper area allows for easy
loading of waste - including bulky waste or "white goods" (refrigerators, stoves,
etc.). This type of truck is easily outfitted with a cart tipper.
Interestingly, commercial use for Rear Loaders is located in both dense downtown areas,
and more rural areas as well. Downtown, where space is at a premium, the more agile
Rear Loader is able to navigate the alleys and curbsides. In the country, it might not
be economical to send a Front Loader for remote commercial stops - so a Rear Loader
equipped with a drum winch or cylinder winch can fit the bill. These options allow for
collection of large rear loader containers of up to 8 cubic yards in volume.
The Rear Loaders' versatility makes it a mainstay of many fleets. Consequently, Heil
makes a wide selection of products and body sizes in this category, starting with our
Formula® 4000, Formula® 5000, and increasing
in size and capability to our PowerTrak™ Commercial.
Also available is our Formula® 4060 Split Body - which is
essentially 2 trucks in 1!

Side Loaders

Side Loaders are a breed apart. These machines are most commonly fully automated
trucks that lift and empty residential rolling carts via a hydraulic "robot arm".
These mechanical marvels allow the operator to work in air-conditioned comfort, and make
the difficult and dirty job of collecting waste much faster and cheaper. Most importantly,
they are safer - by eliminating lifting injuries and keeping the operator out of traffic.
A special type of Side Loader empties commercial side load containers. This type of container
configuration is specific to certain areas of the country, and is not commonly found outside
their "niche areas".
Heil is the undisputed leader in Side Loader technology. We have the broadest selection
of body types and sizes and our machines provide unmatched productivity and reliability.
Our Automated bodies embrace 20+ year proven designs as well as "blank-sheet-of-paper"
designs using cutting edge technology.

Recyclers

Recyclers come in two basic flavors: curbside and co-collection trucks. Simply stated,
Curbside Recyclers are multi-compartment bodies that allow for separation of recyclable
materials. The most common curbside program is the "2 sort" - allowing residents
to recycle a variety of materials, but grouping them into the broad categories of
"Fiber" and "rigids". Fiber products include paper grades and cardboard,
while Rigids include glass containers, plastic containers, aluminum & tin cans, and occasional
other materials. After collection at the curb, these two product categories are further
sorted at a Material Recovery Facility.
Co-collection trucks embody this same concept that multiple materials can be collected at
the same time. Hence, the term "one pass" collection was coined. Heil offers a number
of split body designs in both Rear Loader and Side Loader configurations. These products allow
not only collection of recyclables, but also yard waste and/or solid waste at the same time.
Indeed, Heil's revolutionary split container "one pass" system is patent protected.
We encourage you to view Heil's Formula 4060 SB,
Formula 7000 SB, and Rapid Rail SB products. A
fine example of a Curbside Recycler is Heil's Recycle 2000. This is the body of choice and
workhorse for many fine recycling programs collected by large national companies and smaller,
independent haulers alike.
